I think having read the first 9 chapters of The House of The Scorpion I can see a sort of theme developing in the book. The theme relating to Matt seems to have a relation to monsters, Matt has been told that there are monsters outside at night, and they sometimes eat children. We can also see that some of the people see Matt as a sort of monster, Rosa seems to treat him like an monster and doesn't show any respect to him. Matt also seems to think it is a monstrosity to make eejits, who will do your every bidding and will die if you don't tell them what they should do. Some other people in the story might also see El Patron as a sort of monster, he create the eejit's and has made one in his figure. I think the theme of monsters is a prevalent one and I hope to see it develop further in the coming chapters.
